Field

Have I ever mentioned how much I love living in Redlands? 😁
We went to an estate sale on Sunday, left empty handed then realized I matched the field across the road.  I love wearing camel with white.  While some of you can wear gray, I cannot.  Camel warms my skin and gives me some color, whereas gray absolutely drains me.  So to each their own!

The weather here has been glorious, unlike the news.  What is happening to our world? Between politics, Equifax, earthquakes, hurricanes, mass shootings and losing Tom Petty, I'm afraid to turn on the TV let alone leave the house.  Which I am aware is no way to live yet I feel like staying home more than ever.  Please do share how you are coping with everything.  Do you limit your TV time? Maybe I'm watching too much. There is a fine line between staying informed and overload.  I think I may have crossed that line.  xo

  2. Love the colors of your outfit and your beautiful backdrop.
I try and not hide my head in the sand as they say...but pray for those hurting ...do what I can to help in my corner of the world..then focus on the beauty of geese flying overhead..changing of leaves..smell of baking Fall things.be thankful .i pull myself away from the news for a time..because I realize I need to build myself in order to care for others-❤ sounds abit simple but we each try and do the next thing.

  3. Fight the negativity and tragedy in the world by balancing it with good works and positive thoughts and deeds.

Always is interesting how colors are different on other people. I have a mental image of a fantastic camel or ivory outfit, and I can't wear either color well. For me, it's grey, black, with a bit of warm jewel tones thrown in for interest.

  4. I love camel & white AAANNNDDD I love gray & white. The secret for me when wearing a gray top, is to have white peeking out around the neck, or a white shirt with gray cardigan. Or, gray leggings and white top. I love the grin the most. You look like a 25 year old ready to take on the world, or at least, your little corner of it.
I usually turn on talk radio in the morning, but, lately, I've been playing Wynton Marsalis most mornings while getting ready. The same CD, Hot House Flowers, over and over. It never gets old. We don't own a TV, so we don't watch the news. We look at several news websites, and I follow only a few things on Facebook, just to stay informed.

  5. Love your fresh style of modelling this classic duo. I love both colours with white.
News. It gets sadder and sadder. Or is it that we take it all more seriously as we age? Or that communications have got so much better so that we hear ALL of the bad things that happen in ALL of the world and AS it happens? There is no space for any good news, so it feels like life is only bad, mankind is only bad. And on that note, hugs to you Janet, x!

  6. Eleven months of breast cancer treatments and surgeries plus the crazy, sad world we live in has me living quite a quiet life. I just put my head down and am trying to plow through these physical challenges. Reading the news became such a burden that I decided I was going to live in a news vacuum inasmuch as possible. If I want to go online, I read blogs that make me happy and peruse Pinterest.

It's true that all the bad news is right at our fingertips these days in instant media. It is my deep and abiding faith that gives me hope, though. In spite of the way the world looks, I know that I will see the "goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." I do the work that is set before me and try to carry on.

  7. Your hair is adorable, and I recognize those painters pants, are they Dickies? Probably from right here in Fort Worth!! I had three pair of painters pants overalls in high school and loved them! Super cute look!

I try and find the stories that come out later on the tragedies where people have helped others. It can change your focus and you see the people and how there really are extraordinary heroes in everyday lives.

  8. The news has been very grim...I cannot watch very much of the TV news as it stresses me out.
We have been watching the lovely views of the Salish Sea while at the cottage this week.
You look fabulous Janet! Very autumnal with that camel sweater...and a lovely fied to match!

  9. I get my news via the Economist. I find the in depth, once a week news coverage is perfect. I stay informed, but don't wallow in it, as only the things that outlast the 24 hour news cycle make it on my radar. Yes, it may put me a few days behind, but I'm okay with that.

  10. You look wonderful. I love camel and white, too. The news...almost too much to bear. I sometimes think I am watching/reading too much, yet I can't just bury my head; I want to be informed. For me one way to cope is to be kind to those we come in contact with each day, spread peace. It sounds like a small thing but I think of this Helen Keller quote: “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” Does this sound silly in the face of all the tragedy? I don't know, but I know it can't hurt.

  11. I've limited myself to very few blogs but it's all everyone is talking about, as to how to balance awful happenings and news headlines with what's going on in our own personal lives, which is often difficult enough; everybody on edge and not feeling secure. I've been a mess. My husband knows two people who survived the shooting rampage in Vegas. It made us so sad; disturbed...and those two young people will NEVER be the same; shaken beyond measure. We're still dealing with the irritating/scary consequences of the Equifax breach.

One thing I did was write down every single thing bothering me and then choose what I could actually do about any of it, and the result was to focus on health and home because it's what I actually CAN control, if I'm careful, determined and committed. And, yes, I'm going back to the days after the election when I really curbed how much news I was watching on TV or reading about on the web...trying to find that fine line between being aware vs. clueless. Yep, it always comes back to...doesn't everything in life?...balance. But we're human, and sometimes it's really hard to find it.

Just have to pull out all the stops to get calmer...try to sneak in stuff that makes you feel good; force a little indulgence, like that extra cup of good coffee (with a cookie!). And hug everybody you love...a lot.

    1. I forgot to say how good you looked in The Field.

Really good article today in the LA Times online, "Why losing Tom Petty feels like losing a piece of ourselves..." When I saw, amid all the other horrible news stories, that he was taken off life support, my heart just got heavier. As some famous person was quoted, oh sometime back, maybe when Eagles' Glenn Frey died or Bowie, all our rock icons are leaving us...

  12. I've stopped trying to be an expert on domestic and international politics and current affairs. It's too depressing / anxiety-inducing / despairing. We haven't had a tv for a decade. Now I don't really listen to the radio either. I keep aware online but the days of me wanting to know all the ins and outs of a news story are GONE. Nowadays, I just more or less watch the passing parade. How did it get this insane?

  13. After reading all the comments from your blog it has lifted me and given me positive thoughts to incorporate into my life. I too can only have an impact in a small way in my community, but I will definitely continue to do what I can for as many as I can.

  14. My favorite is camel and grey or camel and navy. I think the world has always been this way - it's just that we have such immediate access to what is going on in the world now. Not to mention the endless focus and dissecting that goes on these days in the news reports. There is nothing I can do about any of it - so I focus on what I can do in my own small world.

  15. I like the color combination as well.

I have a very simple way to handle all the bad in the world today, whether in my neighborhood or across the globe.. I PRAY, PRAY, and then PRAY some more.

  16. I simply scan the headlines on my homepage. I rarely read the story.

I believe the Bible is the word of God. These end times have been prophesied
throughout the old and, new testament.

I pray God's will be done on earth, in my life, as it is in Heaven.

Not that these things don't move me, they do. But, I put my trust
    and, faith in God.

I hope more people will turn to God in these trying times.

  17. Camel and white is beautiful and so is camel and black. I have a pair of flats in those colors and I love the combination, so classy.
It's not you - the world is indeed going crazy. In my area, I don't know what's worse, the drug problem or the bad drivers! I consider myself fairly young at 46 but the world is not the same one I was brought up into. (I'm Canadian BTW) I only listen to the news on the radio the 3 mornings of the week that I go out to work (which is only the headlines), otherwise I don't pay any attention at all. It's too depressing and makes my blood pressure (and anxiety) escalate quickly. I try not to leave my forest/backyard unless absolutely necessary. I spend lots of time with my furry companions, I read (A LOT) and I also volunteer at a nursing home, which puts things into perspective. One must find their own bliss!
I just started reading your blog over the summer, I love it! Your esthetic is so appealing to me, just gorgeous. Your home is lovely and so is your style. Dogmom

  18. One more thing - having lost a son 18 months ago in a terrible accident - nothing in this world compares. I am more of the mind, "what are you going to do to me - I've already been through hell and back". This loss puts things in perspective in a way probably nothing else could.

  20. reading everyone's replies has been so valuable to me. I know I have been watching too much of cable TV, I turn it on just to see what is going on and them get addicted. next thing you know it is 2 AM or so, I wake up and the TV is still on and I can't back to sleep. not good, right? I do much better when I limit myself to listening to the news on public radio, they tell you the facts without the endless commentary and speculation. I also need not to click on the various posts on Facebook which can really draw you in.
on a lighter note, I have been loving your recent outfit posts, so simple and classic. things that anyone could adapt to themselves. and I am so pleased you have been posting so often.

  21. I love the setting of your photos & the camel & white...beautiful & tasteful as always.

As far as the news is concerned, I absolutely never turn on a TV...I own one only for guests if they need to watch. I agree there is so much to be sad about & worry about, but I can only do so much. Quite honestly, I do end up getting the important news. For entertainment I watch Netflix & Amazon Prime.

Loved so many of the comments & agree with most of them. I, too, have had major losses in the last 5 years. My husband died unexpectedly from a massive stroke 5 years ago just as we were planning our retirement, & my oldest son, age 51, died last December from complications of the flu. These tragedies do help you put things in perspective. I still care very much about so many things & the recent news is indeed alarming. But I have no patience now for made up drama that so many seem to need. Drama is one thing...tragedy is another!

  22. The color combination works well on you. Me? No. I've got grey hair so the camel is a no, no. News? I can only take so much these days. As others have said, I've got enough in my life. I refuse to drown myself in the news. There's only so much a person can take. So I protect myself without putting my head in the sand.

  23. We are close to Sandy Hook and know some first responders as well as one victims family. Las Vegas is just the latest, and so far, the most...for now...till next time. I'm sickened to hear politicians say we shouldn't politicize this tragedy. When should we? What else can we do? For those who pray I say have at it. Pray our elected officials have the courage to make some meaningful changes that will protect us all. Pray for the future victims when they lack that courage.
I listen to news radio as DH glues himself to the TV and every talking head he can find. I'll leave the vicarious traumatization to him thank you very much. After Sandy Hook I'm over it. It took forever for the press to leave this state and that community alone. I try to be involved, to make changes where I can and support our CT elected officials who understand there is only one way for the madness to end.
And I think you look adorable and love camel and white and navy or black all day.

  24. I can wear gray but not camel, funny how that all works out isn't it. I've always been a news/political junky but I've had to completely pull pack. We've donated in support of all those who are suffering from tragedies and weather related disasters. Trying to do good things in our local area. We no longer discuss politics with family or friends. I just try to be kind to all and focus more on all the good and positive things in my own small world.

  27. I never watch the news on television. I only read the news. Television news has turned into entertainment - they spin everything so that people will watch 24/7 (something they learned after 9/11) You can learn what you need to know by reading it and for me it's not as cellularly invasive. You look great and I'm really enjoying your new blog.

  28. When the whole election process started in the Spring of 2016, I shut down new and all social media. I was SHOCKED at "Friends" who were beating each other up. What do I do? I truly get out and live. I keep updated just from what I see going on around me and the headlines but I refuse to be afraid. My take is we have a human heart problem in all of this- no matter the circumstance. I refuse to stay home and hide. I am going to go out and spread joy, live life fully and I still have some hope in human kind. I work with animal rescues, and I see a lot of hope in each set of eyes I meet. If dogs and and cat and all creatures get it, maybe humans can too.

  29. I posted before I read the other comments. It's interesting, I have been through a lot of loss in the past 3-4 years..MAJOR losses in the form of both my parents, my BIL and an 18 year career. It does put things in perspective when you wake up and realize time is finite and make the most of it. I used to get up and turn on the tv all day. Now, I get up, get my son to school, read the items I want too and get to work on living my life. Perspective changes everything!

  30. well. it all goes on and on doesn't it.
I just read recently about Bali. the volcano that is set to erupt seemingly at any minute. they are even evacuating people. I just sat here astonished.
it's like ... when do we expect the plague of locusts?
then there is the drought in those countries who are already starving and dying of dehydration.
it all finally becomes beyond belief.
there are over 7 billion of us now.
as to dealing with it... I feel like the little ant that I am.
I lead a small quiet life. I try to be kind. and I fill my home with peace and thoughts of inspiration. I give what I can when I can monetarily and for me at 72 that will have to be enough.
I believe in mind over matter. and as long as they can keep us afraid of life and of this senseless hating each other... this stuff will only get worse.
I try to think thoughts of peace. and my own gratitude.
so onto camel and white... LOVE IT! I wear it now myself and it never lets me down. and like one reader said... I love it also with black. and we love you AJJ!
you are doing more than your part in keeping people sane and centered and well... just happy I think. :)

  31. Love the camel, If you cannot wear grey because you have Autumn colouring, there is what they call Lizard Grey, which is yellow based grey, if you can find it.!! About the news I sometimes think, when we have these terrible shootings and terrorist attacks that if the Media didn't make so much of them perhaps they wouldn't do it as they wouldn't have it advertised which is what they want.

  32. Just want you to know I love your blog, style, and home. Thanks for creating posts--I always look forward to something from you!

  33. Funny, I wear grey relatively well but camel is awful on me. And I love it so much! But my skin has such red undertones that I just don't need any more warmth. You look fab! It's weird, I've simply felt very disconnected from the news lately. It's like it's so bad and has been so bad it doesn't even seem real. I know that might make me sound belligerent, but I just will not engage with it anymore.

  34. I love camel and it loves me - especially the tone you are wearing here. Looks good with almost everything! I drastically limit my TV wTchi g especially the news preferring to get my news on-line without the repeated graphic replays of terror or other disturbing stuff. Since doing this I am more at peace and thinking in positively constructive ways to help. Like: affirmative prayer, donating blood, being myself the peace and kindness I want for the world. There really is another way besides fear and discouragement.. these things are also opportunities if ... in my case, I just do t want TV announcers, media programming or anything else in general to dictate my feelings and ideas.. I can think for myself, thank you! And my feelings are more than fear/anger, more practical than punishing - just plain better-- all this just by limiting exposure to toxic stuff. IMHO you are tuni g in too much to TV.

  36. Hi Janet,
As an ICU nurse I experience sad, and grim situations on a daily basis. Add the news and what’s going on in the world and this orange guy of this country I have to find a balance to keep myself happy, and healthy. I have almost completely eliminated the news from my life, I get together with friends, and I try to take care of myself with massages, listening to classical music on my way to work, read at nite to unwind and I am in the process of finding a yoga class to attend on a regular basis. I’m trying at least in my free time to keep the drama and bad news out of my life and try consciously to invite the beautiful things into my life!
I so enjoy your posts and your blog! Please keep it up, it’s part of my happy place ! 😘
